Despite escalating climate risks, fewer than 4 in 10 companies worldwide have formal Adaptation & Resilience (A&R) strategies, while a critical US$0.5-1.3t annual financing need persists. This session explores how businesses can move beyond risk mitigation to harness A&R as a driver of long-term value and opportunity. Through perspectives from our panellists, we will examine:

  • How companies can embed resilience into operations, supply chains and strategy,
  • the role of financiers across the capital stack in scaling A&R solutions,
  • barriers that must be overcome for capital to flow effectively, and
  • the policy unlocks and public-private partnerships required to elevate A&R as a mainstream business and investment priority.

By reframing A&R as both risk management and value creation, the discussion will surface pathways for mobilising capital and building resilience in a climate-impacted world.

In recent years, public sector frameworks including but not limited to implementing ISSB-aligned disclosure regimes, best practice guidelines and taxonomies, have made private sector transition planning and transition finance both more accessible and essential. There is growing recognition that private sector plans are vital to realising national climate goals such as NDCs, Long Term Strategies and National Adaptation Plans. To achieve maximum impact, these plans must be developed in close alignment with evolving policy frameworks and market expectations and must be pursued despite waning attention due to macroeconomic challenges.

This session will explore how public and private sector leadership complement one another, creating a flywheel effect to accelerate climate transition planning. Ben Caldecott, Chair of the ITPN's Advisory Group, will kick us off with insights on how transition plans are mobilising transition finance and how sectoral transition plans can inform credible private sector planning. This will be followed by a panel of leading policymakers, regulators, and financiers who will discuss recent progress, challenges, and solutions to make the case for transition planning and deeper public-private collaboration to scale up transition finance and deliver on climate ambition.
