Xcelerating Nature-based Solutions: Role of Technology and Innovation

Nature-based solutions (NbS) such as reforestation, avoided deforestation, improved forest management and agroforestry, play a vital role in absorbing CO2 emissions and their development is critical for achieving the Paris Agreement’s climate goals.

Addressing the climate crisis and reaching a 1.5°C or 2°C pathway by 2030 will require about a 50% net reduction of annual emissions to around 23 gigatons of carbon dioxide (Gt CO2) from 2019 levels. Especially in hard-to-abate industries, carbon credits enable companies to support decarbonisation beyond their own carbon footprint, thus accelerating the broader transition to a low-carbon future. Although demand for carbon offsets is growing with hundreds of major companies having made ambitious climate pledges, a number of challenges surrounding NbS are limiting their further development.

Join us on 2 July for an exclusive session with the partners of Sustaintech Xcelerator and pitches from the 2021 cohort on activities and technology solutions to increase investor and buyer confidence in NbS. The panellists will discuss:

  • The challenges and opportunities of scaling up nature-based solutions
  • The role of technology and innovation in addressing these challenges
  • The outlook of global carbon market policies, trends and Singapore’s ambition to be a carbon services hub
