Powering Progress: Unlocking Sustainable Data Centres and Clean Energy Innovation

An Ecosperity Conversations session by Temasek, supported by BloombergNEF

With the challenge of grid queues and delayed access to grid power, data centre developers in the US are turning to on-site gas as a bridge solution to 'speed to power'. BNEF research shows that announced on-site gas projects in the US could increase US power sector emissions by 20%. The same is true for Asia where AI global hyperscaler expansion and rising AI adoption are driving rapid growth in data centres.

The challenge is now to harness this demand growth to accelerate the region's clean energy transition while meeting new load securely and affordably. Therefore, the imperative to finance and deploy clean power technology solutions while decarbonising conventional energy, is clear. There are opportunities to pilot, commercialise and scale solutions regionally, including US-commercialised technologies such as SMRs across Asian markets.

This roundtable held on the sidelines of NYC Climate Week will convene asset owners, data centre operators and infrastructure investors to discuss the progress of financing firm clean power technologies across the US and Asia, their role in helping scale the data centre industry, and what commercial and policy conditions are required for capital to move.

This is a by-invite-only event.
