As Executive Chairperson, Mikkel works with the Urban Partners leadership on the strategic direction of the company while supporting various strategic initiatives – all driven by the ambition to make Urban Partners the most competent investor in the Urban Value chain driven by a purpose of creating green thriving cities.

Mikkel co-founded the firm in 2005 and served as CEO until 2019. He is committed to proving that solving problems is a superior investment proposition and a firm believer in the commercial potential of transition capital. Mikkel plays an active role in the company’s advocacy work around promoting long-term stakeholder capitalism and has initiated such initiatives as LOTUF and has been chairing the Bloomberg Dynamic Cities Coalition.

Mikkel is also involved in incubating "non for profits": such as UN Live and the Human Practice Foundation and “for profits" such as The Glacial Rock Flour Company, and Home.earth. All initiatives are driven by a strong belief in the power of entrepreneurship in addressing problems in a systemic manner.

Mikkel holds a valedictorian B.Sc. in International Business from Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
