Towards a Zero Waste Nation

2019 is designated as the Year Towards Zero Waste for Singapore. Since the 1970s, the amount of waste disposed of has increased by almost seven-fold. In 2017, Singapore disposed of 8,400 tonnes of waste per day. With Semakau Landfill projected to fill up by 2035, there is a need to find solutions to prolong the lifespan of the landfill.

Mr Tan Meng Dui, CEO of the National Environment Agency (NEA), will share NEA’s holistic approach to waste management and the role of businesses in this collective effort. By focusing on 3R (reduce, reuse and recycle) and circular economy approaches, along with customised solutions for e-waste, packaging waste including plastics, and food waste, Mr Tan will highlight what is in the pipeline for the Year Towards Zero Waste, including upcoming policy initiatives, campaigns and pilots for new technologies.
